I didnt forget...

Well as you can see i have not written anything in almost 2 years. Why you ask? Mostly because i have a 2 year old and dont have the time to get on a computer much since there is so many games to be played and books to be read. I must say that being a mom has been the greatest gift from God. Colton amazes me everyday with how smart he is and howmuch more he wants to learn. He is starting to put a few sentences together and bevoming more independent everyday. He went "peepee in potty" 2 times the other night but has not been remotely interested at all since then. If any of you moms have any advice on potty training a boy please feel free to let me know. :)

On another note all things are on track in the Leggett household. My husband and I had some trials and tribulations but thanks to the good Lord above we are back on track and going strong. Never underestimate the saying "God works in mysterious ways" because it is the truth. I am very thankful for everything he has done for myself and my family.

Well my son just woke up so i have to go tend to him but i plan on getting on more so stay tuned. I will leave you with a couple pictures for now.

He is here!

This is going to be short because I only have a few minutes but Colton Wade Leggett Weinmann is FINALLY here. He was born 3/2/11, weighed 6lbs 3oz and was 20 inches long. I checked into the hospital 3/1/11 and started having contractions around 5pm. The next day around 9ish the doctor came in and broke my water and i finally decided to get the epidural (18 hrs of contractions=not fun). I quickly dilated to a 7 but then I stopped. The doctor decided it was time to take him by emergency c-section and Colton was born at 3:10pm. He is amazing and I truly understand what mothers love is all about. I will try to update as much as possible but there is so much to do! Here are a few pics for now....
He definitely cant deny me... :-)

The Race is Over

Wow it has been a long time since I have had access to my computer. I still dont have a modem for the new house so I dont have access to my blog(grrrrrr). For those of you that dont know my cat was also pregnant so I decided it was a race as to who could deliver 1st and she beat me by 2 weeks. She had 5 kittens and they are all doing well. I had to take her to the vet today and she has an ear infection so I am doctoring them. Here are a coupld pics of the little ones....

As for me I am still pregnant but I am being induced March 2nd. My doctor is going to put me in the hospital on the 1st. I also found out that I am a week futher along than I thought so my due date is actually March 11th but due to the gestational hypertension they are taking him a week early. Im super excited that we are that much closer to meeting the Lil guy! I have a baby shower the next 2 weekends and then he will be here. Only problem is Im still on bedrest and everytime I disobey I get busted because I swell so bad if Im on my feet for as little as an hour. Thank God I have an amazing husband to get everything lined up for Coltons big arrival. There is still so much to do but Im not stressing over it. Im just trying to take it day by day. I finally decided on which brest pump (thanks to Erin!!) and I bought it so thats I less thing to worry about. Little by little everything is falling into place and I wouldnt have it any other way. Well I have to go but hopefully yall will hear from me a bit sooner than this time.

Bedrest

Well my doctor finally said the words I have been avoiding to hear "You need to be on a full time bed rest". So I get to do this all day...
Im not real happy about it because I have never been one to lay around but its best for Colton so I do it. Doctor says that I have gestational hypertension and will not be able to carry him over 39 weeks. I have to go to the doctor every Tuesday and Thursday for an ultrasound and to be closely monitored until they induce me. I could be induced any day now or up to 39 weeks. I am also dealing with really bad swelling which is not real fun but oh well. I also think I am losing a little bit of amniotic fluid which has the doctor very concerned so thats another reason I am being monitored closely. I will keep yall posted on all of this. So now I have a nursery that has to be painted and set up and a house that needs to be unpacked but I cant help. I thank God every day for Joey because he works 4 jobs but yet when he is home he is non stop on getting things dones at home. I just feel bad because I know Im NO help. On this note I am going to lay back down! Hope everyone is doing well!!! :-)

The Move

I know I am WAY behind on my blog but we just moved and dont have internet yet! On the up side...We are FINALLY homeowners! Originally we had decided to build but that turned into a disater in itself with the builders so we ended up buying a house built in 2005 and we LOVE it! Its on a acre in Hockley TX and its so peacful! Its very difficult to move when you are 7 months pregnant but thanks to my husband he has made it super easy without me feeling bad about sitting around! I cant wait to start getting everything in order for Colton to be here. Im only posting 1 picture till I have more time!

As far as the pregnancy goes I am currently being tested for Preeclampsia due to the amount I am swelling. My doctor put me on a 24 hr bed rest and it did seem to help the swelling a bit but am still waiting to hear the results of the lab. I cant wait for Colton to be here! Well thats all the time I have but will update you more once I get time and internet! Xoxo!

Caffeine VS Carbonation

So since I have gotten pregnant I want cokes all the time. I tried to cut back but started getting the caffeine headaches. Me and Joey got into a dicussion and I became very curious on which one was worse...cafeine or carbonation. According to what I have read neither is good(go figure).  Here is a little insight I thought I would share...

The Effects of Carbonated Drinks in Pregnant Women

When you become pregnant, it is important to watch what you eat in addition to how much you eat. Although carbonated drinks are acceptable in moderation while you're pregnant, drinking too much of them can potentially cause health problems and uncomfortable side effects like bloating and increased weight gain.

    Caffeine

  2. Caffeine is a stimulant that is commonly found in carbonated drinks. The March of Dimes advises that pregnant women consume less than 200mg of caffeine per day, since elevated levels of caffeine can contribute to a higher risk of miscarriage.

    Dehydration

  3. Consuming large amounts of carbonated drinks can leave you feeling dehydrated, due to the amount of chemicals that are used to make them. This dehydration is made worse if you do not consume adequate amounts of water.

    Depletion of Calcium

  4. Drinking large amounts of carbonated drinks begins to deplete your body's calcium reserves. When coupled with your unborn baby's calcium needs, this can contribute to decreasing bone density and predispose you to diseases like osteoporosis.

    Excessive Weight Gain

  5. Many carbonated drinks are nutritionally empty, filled with carbohydrates and sugars. Should you consume many carbonated drinks, you may predispose yourself to gaining unnecessary weight that will be difficult to shed after your baby is born.

    Bloating

  6. The bubbling of carbonated drinks may leave you feeling bloated and gaseous. This is most common during your first trimester, when you are more predisposed to nausea.

    Increased Heartburn

  7. Carbonated drinks are slightly acidic in nature due to the chemicals that are used to make them. Thus, during your second and third trimesters, carbonated drinks may result in increased heartburn.

What's the Real Scoop on Caffeine During Pregnancy

Caffeine is one of the most loved stimulants in America! But now that you are pregnant, you may need to lighten up on the daily intake of your favorite drinks and treats.

Facts About Caffeine:

Caffeine is a stimulant and a diuretic. Because caffeine is a stimulant, it increases your blood pressure and heart rate, both of which are not recommended during pregnancy. Caffeine also increases the frequency of urination. This causes reduction in your body fluid levels and can lead to dehydration.
Caffeine crosses the placenta to your baby. Although you may be able to handle the amounts of caffeine you feed your body, your baby cannot. Your baby's metabolism is still maturing and cannot fully metabolize the caffeine. Any amount of caffeine can also cause changes in your baby's sleep pattern or normal movement pattern in the later stages of pregnancy. Remember, caffeine is a stimulant and can keep both you and your baby awake.
Caffeine is found in more than just coffee. Caffeine is not only found in coffee but also in tea, soda, chocolate, and even some over-the-counter medications that relieve headaches. Be aware of what you consume.

Fact or Myth?

Statement: Caffeine causes birth defects in humans.
Facts: Numerous studies on animals have shown that caffeine can cause birth defects, preterm delivery, reduced fertility, and increase the risk of low-birth weight offspring and other reproductive problems. There have not been any conclusive studies done on humans though. It is still better to play it safe when it comes to inconclusive studies.
Statement: Caffeine causes infertility.
Facts: Some studies have shown a link between high levels of caffeine consumption and delayed conception.
Statement: Caffeine causes miscarriages.
Facts: A few studies have shown that there may be an increase in miscarriages among women who consume more than 300 mg (three 5 oz. cups of coffee) a day. Other outcomes include preterm labor and low-birth weight babies. Again, it is safer to avoid caffeine as much as possible.
Statement: A pregnant woman should not consume ANY caffeine.
Facts: Experts have stated that moderate levels of caffeine have not been found to have a negative effect on pregnancy. The definition of moderate varies anywhere from 150 mg - 300 mg a day.

How much caffeine is in your favorite drinks & snacks?

  • Starbucks Grande Coffee (16 oz) 400 mg
  • Starbucks House Blend Coffee (16 oz) 259 mg
  • Dr. Pepper (12 oz) 37 mg
  • 7 Eleven Big Gulp Diet Coke (32 oz) 124 mg
  • 7 Eleven Big Gulp Coca-Cola (32 oz) 92 mg
  • Ben & Jerry's Coffee Buzz Ice Cream (8 oz) 72 mg
  • Baker's chocolate (1 oz) 26 mg
  • Green tea (6 oz) 40 mg
  • Black tea (6 oz) 45 mg
  • Excedrin (per capsule) 65mg

How much caffeine is too much?

The less caffeine you consume, the better. Some experts say more than 150 mg of caffeine a day is too much, while others say more than 300 mg a day is too much. Avoiding caffeine as much as possible is your safest course of action. If you must get your fix, it is best to discuss this with your health care provider to make the healthiest choice for you and your baby.

So what have I learned??? Water is the safest way to go for Colton...
Wish me Luck!!!

The Blanket

Its been a while since I have been on and come to the conclusion I am a horrible blogger. I have to share this though. About 2 months ago my husband comes to me and ask me for one of my dads Hazmat shirts from Houston Fire Dept. I'm sure I gave him a strange look because he went on to explain that he wants to have a blanket made for Colton. Apparently the wife of a guy he works with can make blankets with t-shirts. I had never heard of this at the time but we gathered shirts together. For those of you that don't know my husband he is an over achiever and works at 4 different fire stations being Houston (74's), Aldine, Katy and Magnolia. My father is also a fire fighter and he works at Houston (Hazmat) and Katy. We got 4 shirts together and 3 station patches and gave them to her. In 2 months I have completely forgotten about this blanket that was being made until Joey sent me pictures. It was very hard to keep my composure (I'm sure the hormones helped) because I could not have asked for anything more sentimental than this blanket. This is something that Colton can keep for the rest of his life and always remember his father and grandpa. That being said, look at the amazing job......

This may not be a interesting to anyone else but being raised in the fire dept, having a fire fighter father and now a fire fighter husband this is just a tear jerker! (Ok I know my hormones are crazy too!) Thanks for letting me share this with all of you!
